This is a good keyboard. The integrated Touch ID is a great bonus. Key travel could be a problem for some, but id you’re familiar with witless apple or Microsoft keyboards, then you know key travel isn’t much. It connects seamlessly, and the keys do not pertrude too much and has an excellent feel when typing. This keyboard requires an M1 chip or higher to be functional. Also, for those complaining about the serial number, apple DOES NOT, offer a warranty for their accessories ie, keyboard, Magic Mouse, etc, so your serial number for your accessory will not come up if you’re trying to register it.Loved the Magic keyboard that came with my iMAC but missed the numeric keypad. All is good now!Like the previous Magic Keyboards I have used, this one is easy to type on and relatively quiet, though not silent. If you like the short-stroke keyboards Apple makes, you'll like this one. However, battery life is not very good: you'll find yourself having to plug it in to your Mac every few weeks. And the price is very high, compared to the nice wired Apple keyboard I used for years on my iMac. The "reason" for this is the TouchID. You may not want this feature depending on how you use the keyboard. If you're constantly on the go and inserting your MacBook into a dock often, you will find the promised convenience of the TouchID is limited, since it will not turn on the MacBook, only unlock it. To turn it on, you still have to open the MacBook and use the TouchID key there to start the computer before you put it in a stand and plug into the dock. I tend to leave mine attached to the dock a lot, and so putting it to sleep and waking it with the TouchID on the keyboard is great. If you always use sleep mode when you aren't using your MacBook, this shouldn't be a problem.I love having this with my MacBook Pro 14 Home configuration setup. It offers the convenience to still use touch for my passwords and a full number pad key. Makes using my Mac Laptop great for home use, besides on the go.Just works well, great better life. Love this keyboard. This is an Apple keyboard so you save a few bucks and got same day delivery - whaaaat? Yep. Still not a fan of Apple key spread- it’s the same as the board delivered with the new mac, but added numerical keys.Does it occur to Apple that someone replacing their keyboard might -- just might -- have an older computer? In this case, a dandy, ten-year-old iMac? Without any USB-C ports? Would it occur to them to include an adapter from USB-2 (or whatever it is that I have plenty of)? Of course not. They want me to suffer as much as possible from not having bought a new computer to replace the one I have that works perfectly.So. One or two more days without a "magic" keyboard while I wait for an adapter. Thanks, Guys.I noticed a few reviews that mention that it can't be registered with Apple. It turns out Apple doesnt register any peripherals. You can't register keyboard, mice, etc. Take a pick of the serial and product code and save it if you might need it later, and then give it to Apple when you call or email them. This works great with a 2022 M1 MacBook Pro. I use it over Thunderbolt and Bluetooth. Battery life is exceptional.I just bought one to go with a Mac studio. Thank goodness I bought it here rather than directly from apple, or it would have cost me exactly 2x the price (250 vs 129). I have a 2005 USB apple keyboard, and it's miles ahead in usability, comfort and visibility. the only two things this keyboard has going for it are the inclusion of Touch ID and the wireless operation. Those aside, it's a disaster from every perspective. the keyboard is too low, it doesn't have raisers so you can't change its angle, and of course if it's apple it must be razor thin, so the keys have barely any travel at all when in use. I can't find the percentage in the documentation, but it's not a full scale keyboard, it's one of the lower percentages (my guess would be around 85% of a regular keyboard) so I've been unable to touch type on it, I keep making mistakes. It has rubber feet, but apple positioned them towards the middle rather than in the corners, so when you move the keyboard, the aluminium corners scrape unpleasantly against your desk, which in my case is made of glass. think dragging a nail on a chalkboard. The Enter/Return key is double height, as all Enter keys should be (unfortunately in modern keyboards there's been a trend to reduce them to single height) but it's not double wide. In fact it's considerably narrower than a regular key, so I keep missing it. This defeats the purpose of having it double-height in the first place. It's an all-round bad product, and seen the number of issues this keyboard has, it's uncharacteristic of apple. it's the cheapest tat you can possibly imagine, in fact here on amazon you can buy for A QUARTER of the price, a keyboard with identical features (except for touch-id which is an apple-only deal, which in any case is in the process of phasing out to replace it with face id). Not enough? in exchange for the lack of touch-id, those alternative keyboards have a proper double-height/width enter key, they have adjustable height, they pair with up to 3 systems and have 7 colour backlighting. Unless you've decided to collect all apple products regardless of their worth, you'd be better served by getting one of those. If you're a die hard Apple fan, then consider a wired keyboard like my 2005 Apple USB Keyboard. Once you try it (or rediscover it) you won't believe you've actually put up with the "magic" keyboard all this time. The price for this keyboard is probably the worst thing about it, but I can't deny the fact that it feels amazing to type on and is very sturdy and minimalistic, and this comes from someone who has used both membrane and mechanical gaming keyboards with a high price tag.Unfortunately it doesn't have all the convenient buttons, volume knob etc, but you still have the Fn equivalent functions and touch ID is just so great and quick to get things done that require authentication.Highly recommend it if you can afford it and want something that feels high quality and looks elegant.…..But…it's worth it… if you are debating upgrading, i say just do it. Its a great keyboard.I upgraded from the non-Touch ID version in space gray and glad I did.The Touch ID is a fantastic addition to an already excellent keyboard.
